A will is a legal document that an individual creates in concert with their lawyer that details their wishes on how their estate (assets and liabilities), should be managed or distributed in the event of their death. If the assets warrant this document could be filed with the Superior Court of Justice for the Appointment of Estate Trustee (formerly known as probate).

 

A will does not come into effect until death and is carried out by the Executor, which is established with the will.
